Evonik's unmodified IDISIL® Colloidal Silica is anionic in nature and can be used in a variety of water based applications such as chemical mechanical polishing and coatings.

Once functionalized with an Evonik organosilane, the IDISIL® Colloidal Silica becomes highly compatible with organic matrices. When the organosilane modified IDISIL® Colloidal Silica is used in composites, the particles play an important role in preventing phase separation of the resin system and enhancing mechanical strength. For example, epoxy modified IDISIL® Colloidal Silica can be used as a filler to reinforce mechanical strength as well as increase thermal stability.

When the surface of the IDISIL® Colloidal Silica is functionalized with an alkyl, phenyl or/and vinyl groups by using Evonik organosilanes, it makes the IDISIL® Colloidal Silica particles hydrophobic. When the functionalized IDISIL® Colloidal Silica is used in a superhydrophobic coating the particles enhance the repulsion of water. 

(meth)acrylate functionalized IDISIL® COLLOIDAL SILICA

Optical coatings with improved thermal and mechanical properties can be made with (meth)acrylate surface modified IDISIL® Colloidal Silica. These particles can be evenly dispersed to the coating resin matrix by in situ polymerization reactions. 

amine functionalized IDISIL® COLLOIDAL SILICA

Amine functionalized IDISIL® Colloidal Silica has found use in membrane applications as a selective metal binder. The amine functionality on the surface of the IDISIL® Colloidal Silica also allows it to be used as a building block for attaching complex dyes or biomolecules for various biomedical applications. Also, these particles can act as catalyst support.
